Experience a true remote adventure in Voyageurs National Park(VNP) as we camp, hike, and fish on Mukooda Lake — a quiet, non-motorized lake that can only be reached by portage. Unlike most of Voyageurs, canoes and motorboats aren’t allowed here. And, while usually I don't mind exploring via motorboat, today we are looking for a quiet camping adventure. So, we rented a rowboat from Pine Point Lodge (a Forest Service concessionaire) to explore this incredible wilderness lake.

Our trip starts at Crane Lake, where we boated to the Forest Service dock and hiked the portage trail into Mukooda. Once there, we set up camp on a remote site, went fishing from the rowboat, hiked the trails, and cooked dinner over the fire — enjoying one of the most peaceful and secluded lakes in the park.

Entry: Crane Lake → Forest Service portage trail to Mukooda Lake

Lake: Mukooda Lake (non-motorized, no canoes or motorboats allowed)

Gear: rowboat rental from Pine Point Lodge

Activities: fishing, hiking, camping, campfire cooking
