Cruise on the MSC Grandiosa with Rear Aft Balcony Tour

MSC Grandiosa first came into service the year 2019. We sailed in 2021 and it was out first Meraviglia-plus class cruise ship.

It felt good to be back on a ship! But, what was it like to cruise again when COVID was still present in 2021? Leading up to the day of the cruise, we were unsure if we would be able to sail. Sailings in prior months were cancelled. Cruising had many uncertainties. MSC had strict health and safety protocols in place that we had to follow. Every one required a negative COVID test before being allowed embarkation. (whether vaccinated or not, every one gets tested for COVID). It was a different experience cruising during a pandemic, but it felt safe knowing everyone on board has been tested. Aside from frequent tests, we had mandatory twice a day temperature checks, hand sanitizers everywhere, increased cleaning frequency, and face masks in public areas except when eating and out in the sun deck. At the Buffet, you don’t serve yourself, the cooking staff serves you, so there’s no direct contact to potentially cause contamination. Every passenger wears a bracelet for contact tracing. The one downside for us was not being able to book our own tours on shore. Since the pandemic, MSC has required passengers to book exclusively from MSC Shore Excursions. We signed up for a few tours. We had to follow/stay with the group. If you go on your own, you won’t be allowed to board the ship. All in all, we’re glad we got to experience cruising on this massive, beautiful cruise ship.. We try to book our favorite REAR AFT CABIN with a view over the ship’s wake.
