There’s no mistaking the irony here. A safety harness, designed to protect humans, has become a life threatening trap for a seal pup. Someone, somewhere, cared enough about safety to wear this gear. But when it was no longer needed, it was tossed aside like all the other “disposable” gear the ocean swallows. These materials don’t disappear, they linger for years: waiting silently to entrap the next marine animal. This pup never stood a chance on its own and we ask: why does animal safety never matter?
