Firstly at roundabouts and intersections accidents happen more frequently,people pay less attention and sometime are unable to understand the give way rules, these tips will help you stay safe.


In my short video I'll show you three different types of roundabouts and provide some helpful ideas on how to navigate your way safely through them.

General Rules:

1: When approaching a roundabout slow down and prepare to give way to oncoming traffic turning right and traffic that may be approaching from the right.Also watch out for traffic from the left that may try to cut through when they should be giving way!

2: if on approach to the roundabout visibility to adjacent streets is clear and no cars are in sight or close to entering the roundabout then it's safe to go straight through or do your turn, again doing your left and right headchecks.

3: The rule of the roundabout is, yes we give way to the right" BUT remember whoever is actually already in the roundabout has the "right of way"

4: In MOST case when entering a 2 lane roundabout from the LEFT hand lane you must either go straight through OR exit left, you cannot turn right from the left hand lane.
When entering a multi lane roundabout you must stay in the lane you are in until you have completely exited the roundabout.

5: When entering a very large roundabout you will have more time to enter safely even if someone may already be in the roundabout, in a smaller roundabout never take any chances, do not enter until you have a safe gasp or the roundabout is clear.

6: Sometime when you enter a roundabout the may be someone on your right who may also be enereing who you may think is going to go straight through and continue in the same direction,only to find at the last moment that they will indicate right at the last moment.

The lesson here is to be aware that sometimes people indicate when they should not-or may not be aware that they have accidently left their indicators on or do not indicate-or forget to when they should.
7: If you need to stop at a roundabout make sure that no part of your vehicle is actually in the roundabout until you are sure that it is safe to enter and to go through. Causing someone to have to swerve to avoid you if the front of your vehicle is blocking any part of the roundabout will not win you any friends!
