Striking public service workers in France staged their largest
demonstrations nationwide on Tuesday (5/12), as the government
gave signs it was seeking a compromise to end the worst labour
crisis in nearly a decade. A trade union demonstration in Paris caused further
chaos, with many shops closed. The march was the largest staged by
striking workers so far and police estimated 50,000 people took
part including railroad, postal, telephone, hospital and gas
workers.

we don't know what to do with patients once they leave. It is very
hard to arrange their transport."

come to work. I think things should be done to stop the Juppe
plan. But I think it is important to maintain a minimum level of
service."
