This is the Aug. 5, 2020 Tavares, FL City Council meeting.

Getting a Tavares, FL City Council meeting agenda - two ways:

1. You can get a limited SHORT online agenda by meeting date (scroll down!) at https://www.tavares.org/902/Current-A.... The online agendas usually are 1/3 or less of the full agenda and fail to include important documents, especially related to planning and zoning hearings.

2. The City Council and Mayor Amanda Boggus refuse to provide full agendas online, so you have to KNOW to send an email to the City Clerk, Suzie Novack at [email protected], and request the FULL agenda packet given to the City Council for the specific meeting you are researching, such as this Aug. 5th, 2020 meeting. That pdf version contains all the documents related, for example, to planning and zoning issues (including maps), or the budgets.

Tab 6,7,8 were Planning & Zoning "First Readings: and Tavares is the ONLY city in Lake County to refuse to allow discussion or comments for "First Readings." Thus the public cannot provide public input until the second and final decision on the project. Ask your City Council member why they don't accept public input on First Readings like most other cities in Lake County!

Poor Tavares Transparency:
Additionally, the City Staff does not provide ALL the attachments for a specific agenda item even in the full pdf agenda. For instance, tab 15 for this agenda is a budget workshop, but the full Powerpoint was not in the packet and I had to request it AFTER the meeting. Usually, they will have copies of such documents at the meetings only. Unlike the School Board, they don't automatically add late handouts to the website either. It is not unusual for the City Manager to give handouts to the City Council that are not given to the public or are online.

The Tavares City Council and Mayor Boggus make it very hard for residents to know what is really happening through the limitations on transparency listed above. Ask your City Council members why the City lacks transparency on many items.
