Games for Windows 95 - Manhattan Space Station

Описание к видео Games for Windows 95 - Manhattan Space Station

-- Disclaimer at the end of the video --

In 1995, Microsoft released the first operative system that started to leave behind the era of MS-DOS applications, that began with Windows 3 and earlier. The one and only Windows 95.

To accompany the big release and all the things Windows 95 was capable of, it was usual at the time to hand over a few Microsoft CDs along with a purchase of a Windows 95 PC. By doing so, Microsoft let customers get a taste of capabilities with various software demos and games that could run on the brand new operative system. At the same time, it allowed software publishers to get some exposure on their new products for the new operative system.

One of those CDs was Games for Windows 95 CD Sampler, released on January 8th in 1996, produced by young Monolith Studios, that created the interactive menu called Manhattan Space Station, used to launch the demo samples contained in the CD. The disc contains over 30 demos, not all playable, from different publishers back in the day. Later on Microsoft published more of these demo sampler CDs with a variety of other software.

This video is a simple tour of the station and a few of its secrets, showing the main areas of it, including the menu part that shows all the demos included, following up my previous entry with the intro video prior entering the station. I was hoping to make this video more interactive with YouTube annotations, but sadly, to my surprise, the feature was removed. Regardless I will be publishing videos for all the demos and include them in a playlist to bulk them together as well as link them here.

There's a small disclaimer at the end of this and each of the other videos, so please don't miss it. What it basically says is "don't make use of contact information shown" and "I do not claim any of the intellectual properties shown". Everything shown is property of their corresponding creators to which additional links in the description of each video will provide more info on the original creators.

There are some glitches here and there on every single video, please excuse those and my bad playing.

Here are a few other things I found interesting, be sure to check them out:

Small recreation of the station as an EDuke3D level map, done with Mapster. Not exact, but quite similar, using Duke Nukem standard assets. Haven't tested in the DOS version, should work just fine though.
