Santa Monica's Public Library Director Erica Cuyugan refuses to address resident concerns regarding transient addicts found with loaded handguns, knives and meth inside the Main Library at 601 Santa Monica Blvd, directly across from the City's newest Fire Station 1. Members of the public who attend Library Board Meetings and wait their turn to describe crime they see in the restrooms, corridors, computer desks and parking are ridiculed and their comments not made part of the public record. Locations of Board Meetings are often changed just hours before scheduled times and attachments withheld. Two years ago there was a murder by a transient addict photographed weeks prior, who made his home on the library steps. The public is pleading for more sworn SMPD officers when the Main Library is open. Our kids, seniors and locals are at risk. Library Director Cuyugan has stated that all revenue-generated library funds go to the City's General Fund managed by the City Manager and City Council. She decided that continuing to promote an author event, "Reflection, Resistance & Reimagining Black Futures" with Aida Mariam Davis, is more important than providing a gun, meth and sex-free library.
