Should you become a private pilot? Many people ask themselves this question everyday. Being a private pilot offers a lot of freedom. You could have a family plane and travel around without a care in the world. This may sounds like a luxury and it is for many HOWEVER this going forward will be almost required if you want to be able to travel around without dealing with the miserable experience that is commercial travel today.

My friend is a private pilot and he took me on his plane a few years ago and the amount of freedom that we enjoyed that day was unbelievable. I sort of forgot all about it until everything that just happened over the last year and began revisiting the idea of having my own plane and my private pilots license.

Last year I began shopping around at different pilot and aviation schools. I payed close attention to how much it was to rent the airplane as well as the instructors time as well as the instructors attitude and demeanor, all of these things are very important before you decide to select a school.

My private pilot instructor is nice, young and in my age range which for me makes us a bit more relatable. I can ask the same question multiple times (which I do) it's hard not to if you are learning a few hundred things per day.

However all said and done I think that my overall costs will be somewhere around $15,000 which is not that bad. Not at all.

The required flight hours are 40 however most people fly 60 hours or so before they are comfortable enough to move forward as as their own pilot and put their family in the plane.

I will begin looking and begin plane shopping this month and will hopefully buy a plane so that I may complete my private pilots license in my own plane.
