Описание к видео Most played Arabic scales part 1 (المقامات الجزء الأول) by markkeyboards 2011

This is my original work, and this is my video. I did all the work in this video. I learned all the scales from years of playing Arabic music and studying it. And I would like to share my expertise with you for your own advancement in Arabic music.

An instructional video showing some of the Arabic scales and how they are played. By markkeyboards
Note that I am using a western scaled instrument (equal Temperament scale), therefore, the sound of the maqam is different than when it's played on an Eastern Arabic instrument, such as, the Aud or qanoon. For, each scale is tuned (pitched) differently and has one (or all of the following: 1/4 tone, 3/8 tone, and 1/8 tone.) Thus, we hear the difference when the same scale, let's say, bayati scale (مقام البياتي) is played on a keyboard (western instrument with equal temperament) and when it's played on an Arabic instrument such as the Aud (عود), for the aud is tuned and pitched differently.
The quarter tone in al bayati scale (بياتي) is slightly tuned different than the same quarter tone in rast scale (رست). However, we hear no difference when we play both scales (mentioned above) on a keyboard (a western instrument), for we are using an equal Temperament western scale with lowering the designated pitch -50 and leaving the rest of the pitches untouched. As a result, we hear the quarter tone sounding different when we play it on the keyboards for both scales (bayati and rast) than when it's played on the Arabic instrument (Aud).

For those who are beginners and intermediate, I hope you'll learn something out of this two part series of al maqamat. I tried to make it as real as it gets on the keyboard in sounding Arabic.
And for those who are advanced, bare with me, if you classically trained musician in both styles the Arabic and Western. Keep in mind this is a simple introductory video, I have not gotten into details on how they (scales) really should be played. I am trying to make it simple for beginner musician. But, as the legend of jazz Duke (the monk) says it, "simple is not easy".
I hope you'll enjoy and learn from this introductory video whether you are beginner, intermediate or advanced musician.
