Описание к видео Life and times of Chris Hani

Today marks 21 years since the assassination of ChrisThembisile Hani, who was the leader of the South African Communist Party and chief of staff of Umkhonto we Sizwe. He was killed outside his home in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni. Polish national Januz Waluz and co-cospirator and then member of the Conservative Party Clive Derby-Lewis are serving life sentences for the murder of Chris Hani. The death of Chris Hani came at a critical time when the country was involved in constitutional negotiations that pave way for the current democratic South Africa. After his death the country was teetering on the brink of a what could have been the bloodiest racial war. The situation was averted by the intervention of the then President of the ANC the late Nelson Mandela. The ANC managed to secure the first democratic non-racial election date. 20 years later South Africa will hold the 5th general elections on the 7th of May 2014 made possible by men like the late Chris Hani. Newsroom went into the SABC archives to find the life and times of Chris Hani.
