Описание к видео Ordu - Kotiora -Pontos - Karadeniz -Black Sea

Ordu is situated on the Black Sea shore of Pontos (todays Northern Turkey). The Original name was Kotiora which was named after a fortress of a Paphlagonian King called Kotis, ora is the word for "Fortress of". Ordu is the Turkish word for military and was given later from a Turkish military base created nearby.

The music is from the Song Tsambasin which mentions the burning of the Tsambasin, found 40klm from Ordu and was the favored summer retreat for the locals.

You will notice the Church of Ipapandis (Tasbasi Church) at the start of the video, we were told it had the "best acoustics" and they put it to the test, the sound is magnificent. The church was built in the middle of the 19th Century in white stones. It has been restored by the department of culture and is now used as a culture center.

Many of the old buildings stand as they did when many Pontians had left them in the 1920's.

We got to enjoy fresh fish at a restaurant on the pier over the Black Sea.
