MacBook Flexgate Permanent Solution - Jumperless Repair

We now have a permanent solution for the Flexgate screen fault on 2016+ MacBooks.

Previous jumper methods were temporary and there was a high chance of the fault returning in the future as jumpers are designed to stay in one place and not flex. There is quite a bit of movement in the screen LED Cable when the screen is opened and closed.
The original Cable was designed to flex but was designed too short by Apple. When the MacBook is full opened above 90° The cable is pulled tight at a very sharp angle.

The Fault:

After a while the cable cracks, usually first accross the LED Return tracks giving a 'Stage Light' Effect at the bottom. of the screen.
Eventually the screen goes black when the screen is opened above a certain angle.

Diagnosis:

The best way to diagnose this fault is to shine a torch up to the screen and if you can see a faint picture.
If you are technical, you can measure the LCD_BKL power line on the logic board. If it is 50-60v this means that the MacBook is on and working but there is no load on the Backlight circuit due to the break in the cable.

Our Own Permanent Repair:

We have managed to get brand new flex cables for the LED Backlight.
We extend the original cable by 3-4mm (Just like the newer 2018+ A1989s and A2159 models).
We splice in a new cable soldering the cable face-to-face against the original under the microscope. The cable orientation then corrected and stuck down the correct way.

Reliability:

Because there is no Jumpers which can very easily fail this repair is a much more permanent solution.
The cables arr soldered face-to-face over a large surface area and horizontal forces will not seperate them.
When the screen is fully open there is still some play in the cable making the original split in the area near the connector far more unlikely.
We would be happy to put a years warranty on this repair and would feel no qualms in supplying 2016-2017 models refurbished with this fix - more so than an original 2016-2017 Model.

If you have a 2016 13" A1706 or A1708 this is covered by Apples own extended repair program. You need to book it in with an official Apple Store such as Sheffield, Birmingham or Brighton who will fix it for FREE!
