Take a look at the impressive facility upgrade Turmec completed for AES Bórd na Móna, a trusted project for our long-standing client that has transformed their recycling operations! Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19 restrictions, the Turmec team completed this upgrade in under four weeks, delivering a state-of-the-art system that now handles over 40,000 tonnes of material each year.

Using advanced mechanical and manual sorting technology, this facility processes mixed dry recyclables, delivered to the Tullamore site in walking-floor trailers. The efficient sorting line includes ballistic separators, disc and ONP screens, and a ferrous metal magnet, allowing for precise separation of plastic film, paper, cardboard, bottles, cans, wood, and more. An eddy current further separates non-ferrous metals, while a vibrating screen evenly distributes materials for further sorting. The final stages involve a triple-eject optical sorter to remove plastic tubs, trays, HDPE and PET bottles, and mixed paper, followed by a second optical sorter for further refinement of HDPE and PET bottles.

As a part of Bórd na Móna, AES serves over 130,000 households and 5,500 businesses across Ireland, making them a critical player in the country’s waste management sector. Thanks to Turmec’s expertise, the upgraded facility provides AES with an efficient, high-capacity system to process and recover valuable recyclables that are then baled and sent to secondary processors and mills, supporting a sustainable circular economy.
