India Pakistan Border Jaisalmer | Tanot Mata Mandir Complete Tour Guide | Jaisalmer To Tanot Ride
This journey from Jaisalmer to Tanot Mata Temple is more than just a bike ride — it is an experience of faith, history, patriotism, and the raw beauty of the Thar Desert. 🇮🇳
Starting from the Golden City of Jaisalmer, the ride gradually leaves behind the busy streets and enters vast stretches of open desert highways. As you move closer to the India–Pakistan border, the landscape becomes more dramatic and isolated. Along the way, you pass small desert villages, traditional mud houses, scattered Khejri trees, herds of camels, Border Road Organization signboards, and Indian Army vehicles moving through the sand-covered roads.
This is not an ordinary road trip — this is a true Border Road experience.
As the journey continues, mobile network signals begin to disappear, but the feeling of patriotism grows stronger. BSF check posts, long barbed-wire fencing, and endless empty roads create an atmosphere that is both powerful and emotional. You can truly feel that you are approaching one of India’s most sensitive and historic border regions.
And then, rising in the middle of the desert, stands the sacred Tanot Mata Temple.
Tanot Mata is believed to be the divine protector of Indian soldiers. The temple gained nationwide recognition during the 1965 India–Pakistan War, when heavy shelling took place in the Tanot sector. According to various accounts, more than 3000 shells were fired in the area, and approximately 450 bombs reportedly fell inside the temple compound — yet not a single one exploded.
Despite the intense bombardment, the temple remained completely unharmed. Even today, some of those unexploded bombs are preserved within the temple complex as historical evidence of that extraordinary event.
During the 1971 India–Pakistan War, particularly near the famous Battle of Longewala, this region once again became strategically important. After India’s historic victory, faith in Tanot Mata grew even stronger among soldiers. Today, the temple is maintained and managed by the Border Security Force (BSF), and it continues to attract thousands of visitors every year.
Imagine this — hundreds of bombs falling directly within the temple grounds, yet none detonating. This is not just history; it is a story of belief, courage, and resilience.
