Step by Step tutorial:
If your drive is not appearing after you connected it there could be a variety of issue, lets try the easy fixes first.
1. First verify that the drive is not physically damaged because if it is you might want to send it to a data recovery facility, physically damaged hardware is beyond the scope of this video and requires a professional to fix. Send the drive to one of our facilities we can fix it and recover the data for you!

2. Its time to make sure your USB ports on your windows 10 computer are working properly. You can verify by connecting to a different external HDD or SSD drive to these ports to see if those usb ports are damaged or not. Most likely you might have 1 port that is either damaged or broken, I have even encountered some people who have all of there ports broken. It can happen so watch out for that.

3. Change out the USB cord to see if its simply a broken cable, most peoples cords are very badly abused and damaged. Sometimes the sheer age of the cord and normal wear and tear is responsible for the usb 3.0 cord breaking down. After the cord is bent approximately 100 times its durability is very low and it could stop working at any moment. When I purchase a new drive or cord I makes sure to never bend the cord unnecessarily and if I do bend the cord It is under limited circumstances, keep your ssd cord in a separate pouch protected and separated from everything else during travel. This is because once your USB cord breaks your external hard drive or solid state drive might be in danger of not operating properly, it could randomly disconnect while working or transferring files. This will cause you to lose time so make sure you also have a back up usb cord if and when the default cord breaks. I have personally been using my ssd cord for about a year now and I have never bent the cord, I took it out of the box in its circular rapped state and continue to use it this way.

4. If your drive is working well but your files are gone you can simply run a data recovery software like Stellar Data Recovery for Windows 10 or macOS and this can help bring your files back.

5. Its very important to understand how files are stored on the computer, I will be using analogies to explain how it works to make sure its not too complicated. When you first get your drive all the space on the drive is set to zero which means off. When you put files on your storage drive it takes up space by being physically charged in a cell, there are millions of these tiny cells and if the charge exist its a one and if the charge is absent its state is a zero. If you had all your files randomly disappear its possible the file system marked the files for deletion. Simply when a file is marked for deletion a certain part of the drive from one end to the other is marked to be deleted, it is never simply gone for ever. Because of this mark we can actually look at the length of this mark and peak inside it with the right type of data recovery solution. We can simply tell the program we are using to tell the file system to unmark these files for deletion and the files will return.

Now be careful because if your files disappear and you start dumping extra files on the drive it might start randomly storing your files in the areas that are marked for deletion, What will then happen is you might overwrite the files that are marked for deletion and then your files will actually be lost. So don't put new files on the drive tell you recover your old ones!

6. If your drive is new you might just need to format it. Plug your drive in, go to "Type here to search" type "disk management" from here you can find your drive and right click on the unallocated space and format the drive, you can choose which file system you want.
