A Frequently-Corrected Word In Early Qurʾan Manuscripts

Описание к видео A Frequently-Corrected Word In Early Qurʾan Manuscripts

In this video, Dr. Brubaker begins with some reflections on the American Independence Day, July 4, 1776, as a turning point that set the course for the righting of many pre-existing and ongoing wrongs because of its recognition of Natural Rights that belong to all people inherently. After a more general discussion, he ties it to his own work which relies upon free inquiry - something that is much easier in the shadow of this affirmation.

The main manuscript substance of the video begins around 11:00, where Dr. Brubaker turns first to a discussion of the root r-z-q and the various ways it appears in the Quran. The root carries the sense of "provision" and in most of its instances inside the Quran it refers to provision that comes from Allah. There are a handful of cases in which the root refers to provision from one person to another, and these are mentioned as well.

Having prepared the context, Brubaker next turns to a presentation of a half-dozen examples of corrections involving the root r-z-q in early Qurʾan manuscripts.

This video is largely based upon content of Dr. Brubaker's 2016 paper presented at the annual meeting of the International Quranic Studies Association. The full paper, containing more information than is shown in this video, is uploaded on Academia.edu and can be seen here: https://www.academia.edu/43649752/Cor...
