It combines two very different melodies, the former being 'Ellers', usually sung to the evening hymn "Saviour, again to Thy dear name we raise" along with the Lutheran German chorale melody "Nun danket, alle Gott", which we sing, today, to the words "Now thank we all our God". The musically aware will have spotted that one of these tunes is in 4/4 time, whilst the other is in triple time. "Ellers" can be heard clearly, both soloed on the Choir Tuba and, later, in the pedal part. "Nun danket", however, is slightly more hidden, being heard in the introduction, and also in the right-hand part at points in the final toccata-like section.

This recording was made on a Johannus Live III AGO organ, using the sample of the fine Hill organ in the church of the Holy Name, opposite the University of Manchester on Oxford Road, Manchester. The sample sets can be heard from four positions: console, front of the church, centre of the church, rear of the church. This recording uses the rear of the church position, affording the most generous recording of the wonderful acoustic in this fine building.
