The Prime Minister became the latest high profile politician to speak out on an issue that occupies an inordinate amount of public discourse. Earlier this month Harry Potter author JK Rowling attacked Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer after he said that 'trans women are women'. He had been attempting to end criticism that his MPs were tying themselves up in knots over what defines a woman. Mr Johnson spoke at Prime Minister's Questions today after a backbench Tory MP raised the issue of 'gender distress'. Guildford MP Angela Richardson asked him for a meeting to 'discuss how we can constructively support these young people who are experiencing gender distress?' Mr Johnson replied: 'I think that this is one of those issues that the whole House is coming to realise is one that requires extreme sensitivity, tact, love and care.
