My 2002 Ford Focus 2.0 DOHC was either overheating or the temp would never get up to its normal operating temp. It was also taking forever for it to warm up. I believe it was even causing the CEL to go on because it would never get into a closed loop if it would never get up to temperature. 

I  found that under normal circumstances the temp gauge would be pinned straight up and down but for the last month or so it was moving all over the place.
The Thermostat is supposed to regulate that and keep the temperature steady. 
So here is how to remove and replace it.
