Land Rover Defender TD5 Roamerdrive install Part 1

Описание к видео Land Rover Defender TD5 Roamerdrive install Part 1

I've owned a Land Rover Defender TD5 for around 5 years now and have had a return of around 28-29 MPG fairly constantly which is better than most. I bought a secondhand Discovery transfer box that has a ratio of 1.22 compared to the 1.44 I have at the moment. The idea of the Discovery box was lower revs for the same speed but the whole of the gear chain would be altered not just 5th gear which would effect the acceleration and pulling power I have at the moment.
With fuel prices getting ever higher I bit the bullet and shelled out for a Roamerdrive unit. Basically this is a real overdrive unit that adds an extra gear to the 5 I already have. So when cruising on the motorway I'd drop into the new 6th gear and this reduces the overall RPM by 28% with a suggested 15% fuel saving! It can also be used in the lower gears again with the RPM reduced by 28%. You just don't want to try and pull away with it engaged although this has caused be no issues when I forget! You wouldn't want to do this if you were towing though.
The Roamerdrive fits on the back of the original transfer box when you remove the PTO cover.
Watch the video's unfold as I explain my take on the Discovery box and the Roamerdrive and the fitting and road tests both before and after the Roamerdrive gets installed.
