A brutal murder has shaken the political landscape of Bengaluru South’s Kanakapura region. Congress leader and former Gram Panchayat president N. Nanjesh was hacked to death by a gang of assailants outside a local dhaba. The murder is reportedly linked to a land dispute involving a shed built for livestock in Honganidoddi village.

Nanjesh, a close aide of former MP D.K. Suresh, supported a Mandya-origin woman named Jayamma in the dispute, allegedly provoking opposition from one Srinivas. Following a complaint and escalating tension, Srinivas allegedly orchestrated the murder using hired killers from Bengaluru. Police arrested him after a shootout where a constable was also injured.

The incident triggered political tension when BJP local leader Kumaraswamy was attacked by Congress workers during the funeral procession. The situation has added a political dimension to what initially seemed like a land-related crime.

Police have registered an FIR, launched an investigation, and are reviewing CCTV footage from the crime scene.
