McAllen Public Utility has invested $8.3 million to install wastewater water treatment facilities, as well as pumping and conveyance piping necessary to provide Type 1 reclaimed water to a large area in northwest McAllen. The facilities installed at the North Wastewater

Treatment Plant (NWWTP) included a new cloth filter system which will eliminate floating solids, reduce suspended solids, turbicity and fine particle in the NWWATP effluent to produce a cleaner Type 1 reclaimed water for customers. The project also includes over four

miles of 12-inch to 16-ince diameter reclaimed water transmission pipe which will deliver Type 1 water to the Master Planned Community of Tres Lagos to now Texas A&M University campus in McAllen, as well as the recently completed City of McAllen Youth Baseball

Complex along 29th Street. The water will be used for landscape irrigation within the residential and surrounding communities. Filling hydrants have also been installed allowing MPU to provide reclaimed water for use in construction related activities such as dust

control. MPU is leading the way by becoming one of the first utility providers to provide a large scale residential reclaimed water service, thus helping to conserve millions of gallons of potable water a year.
