Made from shucked steamer clams, whole belly frying clams are sourced from local clam harvesters who shuck soft shell clams fresh from sand flats off the coast of Gloucester, Essex, and Ipswich, Massachusetts... Recently, I was pleasantly surprised to find whole belly clams for sale at Market 32 by Price Chopper in the Town of Rotterdam, NY.

The Golub Family and Market32/Price Chopper Supermarkets has been a leader in the retail grocery industry for over 60 years... On November 11, 2014, CEO Jerry Golub, along with Executive Chairman of the Board Neil Golub and the company's COO Scott Grimmett announced that the chain would be changing its name to "Market 32" --- a nod to the year of the company's founding (1932) by brothers Ben and Bill Golub.


Price Chopper Supermarkets is now owned by Northeast Grocery, headquartered in Schenectady, New York... The Golub family's merger with Tops Friendly Markets in 2021, gave the retailer 300 stores in the Northeast—managed by the merger's respective leaders...

The Golub family has been good to the Capital District and took over the ShopRite stores in the region, in 2023... Recently ShopRite's closed stores were renovated and changed to Market32 by Price Chopper stores—hiring many of the former ShopRite employees to resume work and save their jobs—that's passion for people and progress in Upstate New York.

Again, I was pleasantly surprised to find whole belly clams for sale at Market 32 by Price Chopper in the Town of Rotterdam, NY... To continue buying whole belly clams at Market32, consumers MUST be willing to pay the SPECIALTY price of these gourmet soft-shell clams.
