Engine vibration videos of the N37 trawler JADIP

Описание к видео Engine vibration videos of the N37 trawler JADIP

Starting with the first cruise after purchase, this is a selection of videos over the next 1 1/2 years of the engines at operating speeds. I made significant changes to the running gear with tremendous visible improvement. Not only do the shafts run smoother but the vibration through the boat and wear on parts is greatly reduced. Money well spent.

I stared out in April of 2018 and the port engine shaft had so much vibration that within 200 miles I was forced to limit the engine speed to less than 1100 rpm or the PSS bearing would fountain water into the engine room. I'm talking gallons per minute. With the engine speed limited it would reduce to a mere dripping. I cruised over 500 miles on one engine so I could get to the yard of my choice. It took three months to remove the shafts, props, cutless bearings, and shaft flange. I replaced both shafts, precision balanced the props, replaced the engine beds with larger, heavily reinforced aluminum angles, replaced the engine mounts, and took out the "shaft savers".

After that the engines ran smoothly but I developed an electolysis problem because the engines were no longer electrically isolated without the "shaft
savers". About nine months later I refitted them and the electrolysis problem ceased. The engine actually run smoother with them also.

I now have over 9000 miles of cruising on JADIP and the engines run like a finely tuned watch... only a little noisier.
