Selling On jumia has been fun and easy for me with no technical background. But overtime I have observed two problems i need to solve urgently as discussed below:
1. NO CONTROL OVER MY STORE TRAFFIC;
When I first started selling on Jumia, I felt the services were really commendable for the great work the jumia team does. Because honestly, they do almost everything for you.
For example: they help set up your store, list your prodcts there and you dont have to pay a dime.
They also host your online store literally for free. In addition when an order comes throught, you are only required to take the product in demand, to any jumia store and they literally handle the rest.
From packaging to delivery and even receiving payment on your behalf. This is all cool but here come my first problem.
as a business owner i never interact with customers visiting my store because Jumia is a middle man here. for this reason, when advertising i can even target my previous website visitors, i can not check them up incase they forget to complete the purchase. I am not even able to update them next time i bring similar products.
As i have grown to appreciate digital marketing, i find frustrating and simply killing my chances to scale.

PROBLEM NUMBER TWO: HIGH COMMISSION FEES.
In my opinion Jumia charges a lot of fees from vendors, I wont say unnecessary fees but i will say really high fees. this forces you over price goods. because if you don't cater for what jumia will chop off you may operate in losses.
so after close to a year i have decided to face my fears, and build my own website(online store). its heck frightening since i have no knowledge of website design.
but as always i challenge myself to learn all necessary skills. I am building something underground so that come 2026, i focus on scaling rather than worrying on the huge fees and not having control over my website visitors
