Coronavirus latest - Shoppers have queued in the dark from 5am and gyms reopened at MIDNIGHT as the national lockdown lifted on what’s been called 'Wild Wednesday'.

Brits were eager to return to normal life as all shops, salons and gyms reopened across England.

Bargain hunters braved the cold as they queued around the block from the early hours for the first chance to do their Christmas shopping on the high street rather than online.

Non-essential retail, hairdressers and gyms are open in all tiers, unlike the first set of local restrictions.

Keen shoppers wearing big coats, braved the cold December morning as they queued for Primark in Birmingham at 7am.

Similar scenes in London and Newcastle as avid shoppers marked the end of the second Covid-19 lockdown. It's the first time in four weeks that anyone across the country is able to do their Christmas shopping in person.

The sudden burst of activity has been dubbed "Wild Wednesday."
