Otay Lakes County Park is just one of 124 parks, facilities, historic sites and open space preserves in the County of San Diego – covering 50,000 acres land over 350 miles of trails. The park is part of a greater preserve called Otay Valley Regional Park which is managed by the County of San Diego in conjunction with the City of San Diego and the City of Chula Vista– and representative of an expansive, region-wide trails system that can support all trail users from hikers and sightseers to bicyclists and equestrian users. The planning area for Otay Valley Regional Park (OVRP) is located in the southern portion of San Diego County, 4 miles north of the United States/Mexico International Border. The regional park will extend about 11 miles inland from the southeastern edge of the San Diego Bay Wildlife Refuge at the mouth of the river, through the Otay River Valley, to the land surrounding both Lower and Upper Otay Lakes.
