We are learning more about Deputy Daniel Sherrer, a 31-year-old sheriff's deputy who was killed in the line of duty, from the people who knew him.

Sherrer, a 2012 graduate of St. Charles Preparatory School, was remembered fondly by those who knew him, including his high school principal and former coaches. ABC 6 was shown pictures from his youth basketball program and high school yearbook, saying they knew him better by his middle name, Weston.

A moment of silence was observed at a district baseball game between St. Charles and Canal Winchester to honor Sherrer, with players wearing black armbands on their jerseys. While current classmates did not know him, one of the assistant coaches is a reported classmate of Sherrer’s.
