Earlier this year whikerms and I were both feeling completely burnt out. Life stress, work stress, and a year in quarantine all seemed to finally catch up with me and I was struggling to move forward. I grew up camping in Upstate New York (the Adirondack Mountains) and the woods have always been a place of peace for me. The thought of a week away in the woods, unplugged from other aspects of life (no phone or internet) to enjoy nature and write music became more and more appealing as other stresses grew. Dealing with depression and stress is a lifetime endeavor, but this trip helped get me back on track to a healthier life.

Whikerms and I went into the trip with an ambitious plan: to write an epic audio-visual album during a week of solitude. This goal quickly disintegrated as we began to shed the stress we'd been carrying into the trip. We kept gravitating to ambient music, though neither of us have ever released an ambient track before this trip! The sound of this track is a clear deviation from my normal tracks, but I'm proud to release a track that captured our feelings on this trip and the unique and beautiful landscapes of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. When we finished the track, we felt like something was still missing. Jiro Yoshioka is an incredible cello player, and fit beautiful cello playing and composition into the piece that really helped build on the emotions we established in the first draft.
