Now based out of The Directors Company, STAR Theater is a nationally recognized, scientifically proven adolescent health promotion model that employs original, peer-developed, musical theater to assist young people in identifying and clarifying the health and social challenges they face, help change negative or unhealthy attitudes, and promote healthy behaviors. S.T.A.R.'s mission is to utilize the performing arts to educate young people about physical and emotional health and sexuality, promote healthy attitudes, build risk reduction skills, link youth with health care and social services, to impact on behaviors that threaten to undermine their healthy development. The program also helps parents and professionals to better understand and more effectively communicate with young people. S.T.A.R. works in collaboration with schools, health care providers and community organizations in underserved populations across New York City.
