Description: Lux In Tenebris in Latin which translates to “Light in Darkness” is a prayer for strength and salvation in the midst of personal despair. Through the use of text painting, Forrest brings the lyrics to life, emphasising key phrases and emotions. The melodies in Lux in Tenebris often employ modal scales, such as Dorian, which gives the chant its ancient sound that is different from the more common major and minor scales. This type of melody is often associated with folk music and medieval music. Lux in Tenebris develops texturally into polyphony, where melodic lines are sung simultaneously with a driving underlying ostinato of repeated motifs that drive the music rhythmically as well as harmonically.
