This quick and easy video is to assist you in taking advantage of benefits available to you under the Cares Act. This is the fourth video in the series. It covers the Payroll Tax Deferral. This allows for a deferred deposit of the social security contribution that needs to be made. This improves cashflows for the business. For the self-employment, 50% of the contribution to Social Security can be deferred. The deferred amounts need to be paid in two equal instalments: on December 31st, 2021 and December 31st, 2022. Payroll Tax Deferral is not available to businesses that have taken a Paycheck Protection Plan Loan. Till the date a PPP Loan is granted a business may defer the deposit of the Payroll Tax. However, if and when a PPP Loan is taken, the deferral facility is withdrawn and the business must start depositing the Payroll Tax. The Payroll Tax Deferral is one more relief provided by the Cares Act and through the Department of Treasury. Together with the Employee Retention Credit and the Payroll Protection Plan it seeks to limit the impact of the coronavirus / Covid-19 lockdown on the lives of ordinary Americans.
