Here’s what we got for the Incipio Octane for the iPhone 6. It’s a co-molded impact absorbing case for the iPhone 6 and is actually drop rated to 4 ft. When I first got it, I was thinking “geez, this looks like a 10 dollar case I’d get from a guy who looks like my cousin”. But the more I used this case, the more I liked it. Generally.

Surprisingly, this is one of our higher rated cases out of our current selection of cases as its one of the thinnest, yet protective iPhone cases that we’ve come across and that’s what gives it an edge over other cases like the Spigen Tough Armor, the Incipio DualPro and Phenom.

I feel that there is an issue with the build quality of the case and the edges of the case are a little high/sharp for my taste. Now despite all of this, we gave this case a score of 4.3 Eh’s out of 5. And despite that, I don’t think I’m going out of my way to recommend this case. I’ll explain. At Mobile Reviews Eh, we like to use things before rating them. When it comes to these slim cases, the only other thing that we can do after installing them and playing a game of Plundernauts is to drop them if they’re drop rated.

After that, there’s really not much else to do. Now the Incipio Octane and just as a side note, do you ever wonder how companies come up with their product names? I personally think it goes something like this.

I want to be the naming guy at a company, I think that would be awesome. Like coming up with the name Plextonium to describe the polycarbonate backing of the Octane and the Flex20 bumper. Fancy.

Now my biggest problem with this case is that it looks like and feels like a 10 dollar case but its not and I’m not sure how to deal with that in my scoring, I don’t have a category labelled “looks cheap”.

Now, if you can get over the cheapness of the case, you will find that this case handles better than most other slim, protective iPhone cases because of the textured bumper. Somehow the textured bumper sort of digs into your hand and keeps it there. There’s an edge that runs along the entire case that feels a bit sharp but that adds to the texture of the case.

Now, the grippy ness of the bumper is offset by the really slick back which allows you to easily play iPhone 6 case bowling with the Incipio Octane. Now this really slick back is a little more susceptible to scratching so you’re going to end up with a case that doesn’t age well. Like the Spigen Tough Armor.

I’m going to take the next few minutes and talk about the design, screen protection and functionality of your iPhone 6 inside the Octane.

The octane is one of the slimmest cases that we’ve come across. It’s just a notch thicker than the Apple Silicone cases and adds the usually 1/8 of thickness around your iPhone 6.

In terms of screen protection the Octane has edges that are similar to the Speck CandyShell which are high and very noticeably. This will definitely keep your iPhone’s touchscreen off a flat surface which is nice.

In terms of functionality, getting to your iPhone in the case is a breeze. The only thing of note is the headphone jack cutout is a little larger than other cases so you’re going to have a bit more luck using other headphones than the stock Apple EarPods.
