Having established your connection on both computers, connect the USB cable between the printer and the server or the primary computer.
Once that connection is established, I will now switch on the printer. The computer will recognize that hardware is being plugged.
The next is to install the printer on the server or the primary computer for the first time.
To install my printer, I click on the windows button and type PC, select This PC. You will notice the Installation Drive of my printer as shown. Note that printer installation differs, depending on the type of printer. I will go ahead and double click on the installation drive and install the printer.
Now the printer has been installed on the system, I will select Print Test Page and continue. Then finish.

Having installed the printer, the next thing is to share the printer so that any other system on the same network will be able to see it.
Before you share the printer, you will have to confirm if the server or primary computer is enabled to be discovered and shared files. You can see this in the previous video on “How to Connect Two Computer Systems and share files with an Ethernet / LAN Cable” using the link on the description.
Click on the windows button, type and select control panel. From the Control Panel Environment, select Devices and Printers. You can see the just installed Printer HP LaserJet Professional P1102 as a default printer.
Right Click on the Printer Icon and select Printer Properties. Select Sharing Tab, select Share this printer, leave the Share name as it is, and click Apply, click OK. Close the Devices and Printer Environment.
You have successfully shared the installed printer.
Now on the second computer, click on the windows button and type computer, select This PC.
By the side of the environment, select Network. Here you will see the two computers are active and available on the network. Because the printer is installed on the Server or the Primary Computer, I will select Speedtech Server and open it.
All the files and folders that are shared on the primary computer will be displayed here. Double click on the printer name to install the printer driver into the second computer.
Now the printer driver has been installed on the second computer. Close the box.
I want to confirm if the printer I installed from the server will be added to the Devices and Printers on the second computer.
Click on the windows button and type Control Panel, select Control Panel. On the Control Panel Environment, select Devices and Printers. You will now see that the printer is added here and it accessible on the primary computer.
Set the printer as the default printer for the second computer. Close the Devices and Printers environment.
Here, I will create a document and see if I will be able to print from the printer.
I want to print this document from the printer installed on the server.
Go to print, you will see our default printer is the one installed on the primary computer. And the status is ready to print. I will go ahead and print. The document is printed.
One thing you should understand is this, as long as the server is active with the established connection still available, the second computer will always print from the server. But if there are no connections among the two computers or the server is turned off, you cannot be able to access the server.
Let’s turn off the primary computer and see what will happen on the second computer. The server is turned off, let’s create a new document.
You will see that the server is Offline. Even though the printer is already set as default, you still can’t be able to print.
Windows cannot print due to a problem with the printer setup.

There is no connection between the two systems as you can see.
Let’s switch on the primary computer. The connection is now established. Try to print the same document; you now see that the server is ready.
Even though there is a connection between the two computers, the printer is switched off. And the document you sent for printing will go through but the printer will not print it out. When you access the printer queue of the server computer, you will see the file you sent on the queue. To access the printer queue, go to control panel and select Devices and Printers.
You will notice how the icon of the default printer looks like, indicating that the printer is offline.
