A tableau rug or pictorial carpet is a decorative rug specially prepared for hanging on room and hall walls for decoration. The designs and samples on pictorial carpets are completely different from common floor rugs. Tableau rugs are generally made of silk, but they have also been made from wool.
Sardrud, with its long history and the large volume of productions of this art, has been known as the tableau rug capital industry of Persia and the world in many societies for many years.
Sardrud hand-knotted pictorial carpets are of great value and acceptance worldwide due to the abundance of colors and elegance used in them. These tableau rugs are often woven in portraits, art designs, paintings, landscapes, and other common designs. These rugs are nationally registered in the spiritual works of the country's cultural heritage.
For millennia, Persian rugs, which are adored for their intricate designs, lavish colors, and matchless craftsmanship, have been produced by hand along the nomad trail across the foothills and high plains of the ancient land.
Weavers, almost all women, spend several months in front of a loom, stringing and knotting thousands of threads. Some practice established patterns; some make their own.
