5 years of Arknights DPS compiled into a bar race

In order to calculate DPS, I started from viktorlab.cn (https://viktorlab.cn/akdata/), which is (was) pretty much the gold standard for DPS computation in CN, or so I understood. I looked at the code, which is publicly available here (https://github.com/xulai1001/akdata). Unfortunately, the guy stopped updating in September 2023 (after Jessica Alter). I took it from there and made calculations for the remaining operators and modules, following the same logic.

As for the Average DPS, in general viktorlab calculated it as:

DPS_{avg} = (Damage_{skill} + Damage_{normal_attack}) / (Duration_{skill} + Duration_{normal_attack}) ,

where normal attack refers to the normal attacks done until the operator has enough SP to activate the skill (starting from 0 SP). Common sense solutions were adopted to deal with infinite or instantaneous skills.

In order to determine durations more precisely, Viktorlab also considered the number of frames in animations and whether attack animations were reset upon skill activation/termination. That was too deep for me and what I wanted to do, so I ignored that stuff. The difference was marginal anyway.

Only 6-star operators were featured, excluding those with low damage capabilities (e.g., healers) and Muelsyse because it would have been a nightmare to pick the best clone option at any given time.

Like I wrote in the video, I calcuated the damage against 5 enemies having the mean defense and magic res of all enemies classified as "boss" in Arknights' data (you can find the data here: https://github.com/Kengxxiao/Arknight.... There's also data for the EN server if you Google). There was no data before December 2019, so I just used linearly increasing values starting from 400 def and 20 res until December 2019. For reference, at the end the mean defense was 1058 and the mean res was 45.

The way the comparison was carried out heavily favors AOE operators. This was an arbitrary decision on my part, motivated by the conditions of many powerful operators' skills (Mlynar S3 hits 5 enemies, Degen S3 can hit 6, Logos S3 can hit 4, Gavial Alter S3 can hit 5 if blocked, etc.). Different kinds of comparisons are possible and could be made if there's interest.

Elemental damage was calculated considering the enemies as bosses. This was in line with the purpose of the comparison: see how well operators performed in "hard" content.

Be mindful that calculations may contain mistakes (I would be surprised if I didn't make any...), so take everything with a grain of salt. Moreover, keep in mind that DPS isn't the only metric with which the value of an operator can be gauged. In particular, DPS ranking is NOT a meta tier list.

Finally, I want to mention the video from which I took inspiration. This is an old Honkai Impact video, here's the link:    • 4 years of Honkai's meta DPS compiled...
