Producer Boney Kapoor recently opened up about a fascinating “what-if” moment in Bollywood history involving the blockbuster film Ghajini (2008). Before Aamir Khan became synonymous with the intense action-thriller and redefined the genre in Hindi cinema, Boney Kapoor had a very different actor in mind for the lead role. According to him, Salman Khan was his original choice to headline the Hindi remake of the Tamil hit.

Boney Kapoor shared that he was eager to make Ghajini with Salman Khan, with whom he shares a long and successful professional relationship dating back to Sirf Tum (1999). He believed Salman had the screen presence and mass appeal to make the film a game-changer. However, things did not go as planned. Kapoor revealed that delays in acquiring the Hindi remake rights became a major hurdle. He claimed that the prolonged process, which involved Madhu Mantena, caused the project to stall for too long.

As time passed, the opportunity slowly slipped away. Eventually, the project moved out of Boney Kapoor’s hands and landed with Aamir Khan.
