Cyborg Bacteria

The nonphotosynthetic bacterium, Moorella thermoacetica which produces acetic acid from carbon dioxide as part of its normal respiration
The bacteria are provided energy in the form of electrons from inorganic semiconductors like cadmium sulphide which is an efficient light absorber
They are fed compounds that allow them to synthesise the cadmium sulphide nanoparticles into the semiconductor crystals around the entire surface of the bacterium.
They are engineering the bacteria to grow solar cells on their surface and this process is self-replicating and self-regenerating so once it is started they continue to grow and divide and harvest solar energy there is zero waste technology
They are combining the carbon dioxide and water to make the acetic acid.
Acetic acid can be used to make fuels (like butanol which is engine ready) drugs and polymers but this requires some other bacteria for this transformation.
Their energy efficiency is 80% the very best plant is 8-9%.
Problems
They need light so in huge vats the light cannot penetrate very deep
They need to distil the acetic acid from the bacteria and rest of the solution
Once these are ironed out the bacteria will be saying I’ll be back.
