How did Mad-Eye Moody die in Harry Potter? During the Flight of Seven Potter, he was flying with Mundungus Fletcher disguised as Harry. Voldemort believed Harry would fly with the most powerful wizard in the group, Moody. So the moment Voldemort apparated and cast the Killing Curse, Mundungus panicked and disapparated, leaving Moody alone, the curse hit him in the face and he fell to the ground.
