This Yorkshire gem comprises of long swathes of flat golden sand, making it ideal for an active day out. Stretch your legs with a stroll along the shoreline and feel invigorated by the wind whipping at your hair. At low tide, there is lots of sand for you to enjoy and muck about in, so be sure to bring some buckets and spades!

Many fossils are also waiting to be found and plundered, though be careful near the cliff edge as falling rocks are a real danger. The clear waters are perfect for a paddle, and there is over a kilometre of bathing waters for you to splash about in.

Reighton Sands was heavily fortified during the Second World War as part of anti-invasion efforts. Indeed, it was one of the most fortified patches of the Yorkshire Coast and you can still see the remains of pillboxes and slit trenches today.

With picture-perfect views out across the unspoilt shore, this gently sloping beach is a delight to visit. You can also wander along the clifftops and enjoy a picnic from your vantage point, though be sure not to get too close to the edge.
