I am a father of six and FND Hope UK's Peer Support Worker for North East England.

I have had issues with cramp as long as I can remember following major surgery as a child, leaving me with a lifelong major Vitamin B12 deficiency and various other symptoms and diagnosis appearing, dissapearing or worsening as I grew older. To save the long haul of a load of terminology I still dont understand (and probably never will) I will cut to 2016 (ish) when I started to have drops and falls as well as the continued worsening of cramps and spasms, that led me to move from a catering career, to a telemarketing day job. Unfortunately they became more frequent, and severe with seizures. All was put down to my mental health to begin with and I was in a battle with medical professionals to be seen by neurology, or even taken seriously. Eventually I changed doctor, and I lucked out! She had experience in neurological symptoms! I was given the probable diagnosis of 'conversion disorder' and finally got referred to a neurologist. My partner and full time carer found FND Hope, and I finally felt understood. After several tests to rule things out, and positive tests to help diagnose at neurology and I was finally diagnosed with FND and Non Epileptic Attack Disorder. Things aren't always easy, but with the work of FND Hope UK, professionals are finally starting to understand, and more help and support becoming available.
