Gettysburg's Eternal Light Peace Memorial

Описание к видео Gettysburg's Eternal Light Peace Memorial

Learn the history of the building and later restoration of the Eternal Light Peace Memorial from an insider’s view. In 1938, Paul Roy was one of the prime movers for the 75th (and final) reunion of Civil War veterans, and the building of the Peace Light. His nephew, Ken Cole, chaired the 1988 anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg and was responsible for restoring the
aging memorial after 50 years of wear. Ken relates the story of the Peace Light from its design and dedication to its restoration in 1988.

Ken Cole is a 9-times-elected representative from Adams County to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He has worked in state government, private industry, as well as federal government. He was uniquely placed to chair the 1988 Gettysburg anniversary, and his story of the restoration of the Peace Light offers insider views of the complexities involved in bringing
about this celebration.
