Khichdi is one of the most popular dishes in so many Asian countries. Mostly Bangladeshi, Indians and Pakistani people love to eat khichdi. However, knowing how to make khichdi in rice cooker can save your time and energy while cooking your favorite khichdi. Because you can cook khichdi in a rice cooker within 30 minutes while a traditional stovetop can take up to 1 hour.

However, in this rice cooker khichdi recipe, I’ll show you how to make khichdi in electric rice cooker. I have cooked dal (lentil) khichdi and used red lentils and green gram. But you can use any type of lentil as you want. You can also use vegetables or meat with this rice cooker khichdi recipe. So let’s get started.

Ingredients
1. Rice: 2 cups (Any kind of short or long-grain white rice)
2. Red lentil: ½ cup
3. Green Gram: ½ cup (moong dal)
4. Cooking oil: ¼ cup
5. Bay leaf: 1 no.
6. Cardamom: 4 nos.
7. Cinnamon: 2 stick
8. Cloves: 4 nos.
9. Black pepper: ½ tsp
10. Cumin seed: ½ tsp
11. Turmeric powder: 1 tsp
12. Onion: 2 large (finely chopped)
13. Ginger garlic paste: 2 tbsp
14. Green chili: 4-5 nos
15. Salt: as per taste
16. Garam masala: ½ tsp (optional)
17. Ghee: 1 tbsp
18. Fried onions: 2 tbsp

Directions
Preparing Rice and Lentils
1. Mix rice and lentils together and wash them for 2-3 times.
2. Soak the rice and lentils for 30 minutes.
Cooking Khichdi in a Rice Cooker
1. Turn on the rice cooker, add oil and wait 1 minute.
2. Add bay leaf, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper and cumin seeds. Fry for 1 minute.
3. Now add onion and fry until soft.
4. Add ginger garlic paste, turmeric and salt. Sauté for 1-2 minutes.
5. Add rice and lentils mixture and green chili. Mix well and fry for 2-3 minutes.
6. Now add water and garam masala, mix well, close the rice cooker lid and cook until rice cooker goes to the “Keep Warm” mode automatically.
7. Add ghee and fried onions over the Khichdi and keep the rice cooker on “Keep Warm” mode for 10 minutes more.
8. Delicious rice cooker khichdi is now ready to serve.
