Woodturning a Multi-Diamond Segmented Bowl

Описание к видео Woodturning a Multi-Diamond Segmented Bowl

I had fun with this, but it was a challenge to get everything aligned. To help you, here are two of my observations if you decide to try any complex feature rings like this:

1. When you are using your drum sander on the two halves of the feature ring, make sure that you do not remove too much material from one half. If so, you may likely have to remove an equal amount of material from the other half to make them come together aligned.

2. When cutting the segmented pieces of the feature ring to make them concentric, make sure that your segments are completely flush with the cross-cut sled fence. Mine were not exactly. This made the top half of the feature ring not come together without hand sanding (lapping) the two halves so that they would come together without gaps. The top half of my feature ring came out slightly oval, not round. This created a few problems.

To be honest, halfway through this project, I almost threw in the towel and started over. But, my wife encouraged me to continue, so I did. She is a quilter and quilters have similar problems when their angles and patterns do not come together correctly.

As always, thank you for watching. I still enjoyed the time spent in my shop and even though this didn't turn out perfectly, I learned quite a bit. Happy Turning, Dan
