In an exclusive interview with SMG Tokyo, former Tokyo Governor Yoichi Masuzoe discussed Japan’s historical trajectory toward militarization and war. He emphasized that Japan’s expansionist policies, beginning with the First Sino-Japanese War and escalating through events like the Russo-Japanese War and the Mukden Incident, ultimately led to full-scale conflict. Masuzoe noted, "The issue lies in the fact that the Japanese people still lack a full understanding of this history," highlighting unresolved historical perceptions.

He also pointed to critical turning points, such as the May 15 and February 26 incidents, which accelerated Japan’s shift toward militarism. The interview underscored the importance of reflecting on these historical lessons to prevent similar tragedies.
