Simon Bartholomew plays guitar in British funk/pop/soul group The Brand New Heavies. Along with bandmate Andrew Levy, they write, produce, mix and oversee the runnings of a fully working, touring and recording band.

The Brand New Heavies are a band that plays their own instruments, not using the more contemporary computer-based programmed music techniques. They have platinum and gold record sales for their many albums and have had several songs featured on film soundtracks, notably Happy Feet which utilised a song from their Heavy Rhyme Experience album, cited to be the first rap album that used a live band.

In these online guitar lessons, Simon breaks down the styles of players like Jimi Hendrix, Nile Rogers and Wes Montgomery and shows you how they influenced the funk guitar sound. Simon then teaches you a variety of easy to play funk guitar grooves and patterns in different styles and tempos with live drum backing tracks so you can practise the parts and play along at home.

You will also learn how to play three classic “Heavies” songs:

– Never Stop
– Gimme One of Those

Special interactive sheet music allows you to play along with Simon, loop passages and slow down or speed up-tempos, allowing you to perfect the parts at home. By the end of the course, YOU will have mastered the FUNK.
