For years we have been told by many insurance carriers and their engineers that the loss of granules to asphalt shingles due to hail impacts was not “Real Damage”

In today's experiment we are utilizing a large Fresnel lens, which is basically a giant magnifying glass, that will assist us in determining if what we have been told by the insurance carriers and their engineers is true.

We are going to shine sunlight on an area of the shingles that have been damaged by hail to see if the sunlight affects the area of the shingle with the missing granules in a way that it does not affect the adjacent undamaged areas of the shingle that still retain the protective granule coating.
