On April 29th, 2020, I decided document my travel from Washington DC to Taiwan during the pandemic. I flew from IAD to LAX on United Airlines and flew Eva Airlines from LAX to TPE.

A difference in culture can be noticed between the two airlines. On the United Flight, there were some people who didn't care about the pandemic, and some who took it seriously. Some of the United flight attendants event took off their masks during the flight. On the flight from LA to Taipei, every passenger had masks and the flight attendants were protected by full body medical PPE.

For the flight on Eva Airlines, everyone's temperature was checked before boarding, and everyone was required to fill out a health declaration form or else they wouldn't let you on the flight. The airline still provided regular meal services, but it looked like very few people were interested in eating. I also noticed that not that many people went to the bathroom.

Upon landing in Taiwan, the Taiwanese Center for Disease Control placed efficient systems to make sure people filled out their health forms correctly. The government uses people's phones to track their location, and the local council calls every day to check up on your quarantine.

I would like to thank all the flight attendants and service workers for tirelessly working through this pandemic.
