Описание к видео Little La Madre Mt, Little El Padre Mt, La Madre Mountains Wilderness Area, West of Las Vegas, NV

Little La Madre Mt, Little El Padre Mt, Near La Madre Mountains Wilderness Area, West of Las Vegas, Nevada | https://lasvegasareatrails.com/little... | These geological features just beyond the upper end of Lake Mead Blvd in Las Vegas, Nevada are a smaller version of La Madre Mt, El Padre Mt and Burnt Peak nearby in the La Madre Mountains Wilderness of Nevada. Similarities include: One side is sheer cliffs, the opposite side is a more gradual incline. There are 3 peaks – the peaks on either side (Burnt Peak, La Madre Mt) are sharper, the one in the middle (El Padre Mt) is longer and more rounded – there is a saddle (or Notch) between La Madre and El Padre Mts. – Both the originals (at about 8,000ft) and the little versions (at about 5,000ft) are on the same ridge system – and most importantly, the little versions are in the same order left to right as their namesake originals. As no geological features are exact copies, here are some differences: Little La Madre is lower in elevation than little El Padre, while the elevations of the originals are reversed – the notch between the originals is navigable by class 3 climbing, the notch between the little versions requires class 4-5 climbing skills – the originals are more spread out, the little versions are more compact together. All that said, Little La Madre Mt, Little El Padre Mt and Little Burnt Peak come close to being smaller mirrors of their original namesakes.

In this adventure I skirt the Western base of the cliffs on a very well-constructed mountain bike trail, though on foot. This trail is a part of a more extensive mountain bike trail system. Even though it was a Saturday, I only saw a few groups of mountain bikers the entire day and had not trouble stepping aside while they passed.

Along the way I imagined a name for yet another feature along the ridge system. Looking like a giant ski jump…though there is very seldom snow at this altitude…I named it “Launch Ramp Mountain”. It is West of Little La Madre, Little El Padre and Little Burnt Peak.

Between Launch Ramp Mountain and Little Burnt Peak there is a saddle that appears to be a potential class 3 approach to the ridgeline giving access to all these peaks. But before exploring that saddle I first continued along the great mountain bike path to the summit of a ridge with spectacular views overlooking the Little Red Rock area (Little Red Rock Overlook Ridge). I was exploring the possibility of an even shallower, easier saddle to the West of Launch Ramp Mountain.

I retraced my steps back down from Little Red Rock Overlook Ridge back to the approach canyon to the saddle between Launch Ramp Mountain and Little Burnt Peak, El Padre and La Madre Mountains. I explored the canyon wash leading to the saddle, discovering a potential class 3 climbing route to the summit of the saddle. Ran out of time but I will return to summit the saddle and all the peaks along that ridge.

Finally, I returned by yet another well-constructed mountain bike/hiker trail skirting the upper base of the cliffs and eventually leading back down to my point of origin at the upper end of Lake Mead Blvd. This trail had a name: “Hold Fast”. The name probably referred to the fact that the trail had some steep diving sections and ran along the edge of sheer drop-offs at a number of points. But the afternoon views of the Las Vegas Strip and surrounding mountains from the “Hold Fast” trail on this clear, windy afternoon were incredible!

I highly recommend this largely unknown, but well-constructed, extensive new trail system beginning at the upper end of Lake Mead Blvd. Along with a few others, I had to park on a bike lane at the end of Lake Mead Blvd. Parking here was okay at this time, but this parking will disappear as residential construction in the area progresses. Hikers, runners and bikers will then need to locate new trailhead parking areas.
